Skyrim FPS Caps?! O.o

Post » Sat May 19, 2012 12:18 pm

For me at least skyrim has a FPS cap on 61 and won't go higher, possible reason is because it's a Console to PC port. Or V-Sync is impossible to disable, even though it says it's disabled in the advanced options.

Whats happening, any possible solutions?

Edit: I've improved my games performance and looks heaps, it runs fine but just the FPS cap, annoys me but doesn't slow down performance.

Note: I have done the iPresentInterval=0 when I first got the game thats the first thing I did!

FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've tried to disable vsync too and it just won't turn off. Quite annoying. :|

You wouldn't want it going any higher, trust me.

To disable vsync add iPresentInterval=0 to Skyrim.ini under [Display]

And make sure you're adding it to Skyrim.ini and NOT SkyrimPrefs.ini

You can disable vsync and get much higher frame rates. I started with Ultra then tweaked things in the ini's to much higher quality. In dungeons my framerate averages 90-120 and spikes as high as 210 in hallways. Outdoors it averages 50-70 and sometimes dips as low as 35.

You don't want your frame rate higher than 64fps as it makes Y axis mouse sensitivity sky rocket. 64fps is the best solution, no microstutter, no mouse lag, no mouse hyper sensitivity. Just smooth gameplay.

They limit FPS because having constant FPS is better than FPS that is constantly changing in large amounts.

^ this. but the difference between 30 and 60 is incredibly noticable, as Skyrim has reminded me what that feels like in cities! I got rid of my HD5770 in hope i wouldn't have this issue for a year or two :(

Also, over 60fps physics starts to go mental, objects fly everywhere at the slightest touch, and the y axis of the camera goes super speed. If you do disable VSync, cap your FPS at 60 or lower.

Get a 120hz monitor and run something like bfbc2 at that refresh rate and tell me you can't tell it from 60

The physics in this game are linked to FPS. If you don't limit it you're gonna have a LOT of problems. Like items flying all over the place when you walk into a room, flying horses and mammoths, and all kinds of general timing bugs. Usually games link physics with time. It was a pretty horrible design decision for PCs, but it works pretty well for consoles since they always have a locked FPS. So, just take that into consideration if you're thinking about disabling V-sync.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't realize someone had already mentioned this :blush2:
